Welcome to The University of Texas at Tyler's Secondary Spanish Resource Page.
The links below were compiled by future Spanish teachers enrolled in SSED 4320, Teaching Skills for the Secondary Teacher, at The University of Texas at Tyler. We hope you find them useful.
Below is Eric McKinney's list of resources for a unit on Educational Spanish Internet sites.
- Bahasa http://www.bahasa.com/Spanish.html This is a good site that focuses on basic vocabulary. Also, the students can hear the pronunciation of the words in both English and Spanish. If you click on "Scramble", it converts the vocabulary into a game where you first click on the Spanish word/phrase, then click on the corresponding English word/phrase.
- ¡Conjugue! http://38.252.8.3/conjugate/conj.html This site features a verb conjugator. You type in the verb you want conjugated, and it returns conjugations for all tenses. Complete instructions are included on the page. It would be very handy for quick reference.
- Learn Spanish: A Free Online Tutorial http://www.studyspanish.com/ This is a great site where students can receive in depth study on several topics of Spanish grammar, and includes practice exercises for each lesson. In addition, the scores from the exercises can be reported to the teacher via e-mail -- this would be great if you wanted to assign enrichment exercises for extra-credit or as regular homework.
- Multilingua http://www.ctv.es/USERS/catulo/ This is an excellent site that explains Spanish phonetics and grammar, and includes popular idiomatic expressions. In addition, for ESL teachers, it explains (in Spanish) English phonetics and grammar.
- Spanish For Beginners http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Thebes/4319/ This fabulous site provides a comprehensive study of Spanish. It includes practice exercises and in depth explanations of Spanish grammar and usage. I highly recommend this site.
- Spanish ¡Pronto! http://members.aol.com/carpophage/spanish/spanishpronto.html This is a good site for finding Spanish learning resources and brief explanations of grammar and usage.
- Spanish Text To Speech Synthesis http://www.bell-labs.com/project/tts/spanish.html This is a neat site where you can type in a word, phrase, or sentence, and it will be synthesized into audio. This would be a great help for students in learning or practicing pronunciation.
- The Conjugation Trainer http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Island/9069/ConjugationTrainer/ This is a good site to drill yourself on verb conjugation for present tense, preterit, and present subjunctive verbs.
- ¡Practica! http://38.252.8.3/conjugate/verbquiz.html Developed by the same person who did the ¡Conjugue! website listed above; this is a conjugation drill in which an infinitive is displayed, and you have to list all conjugations of it in a selected tense. Detailed instructions, and a great study aid.
- Teach Spanish.com http://www.teachspanish.com/ This is a good resource site if you're looking for lesson plan ideas. Also, if you want your students to explore various Spanish speaking countries.
- The Compendium of Online Resources for Spanish Students http://www.frontiernet.com/~ho2943/ This is a very good site that provides many resources broken down into categories. For instance, if your class is studying Latin American Art, you can click on the Art category and see the links relating to Art.
- Coleman's Website for Hispanists http://oliva.modlang.denison.edu/~colemans/hispanists/ This is a great links site that is broken down into categories like "Learning Spanish" and "Teaching Spanish". It also features links to penpal pages and listservs.
- Webspañol http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Thebes/6177/ This an excellent site including many activities, penpal information, and even a test that determines your level of proficiency (it's pretty accurate, I took it myself).
