Breastfeeding Basics

Lesson Description: This lesson covers basic breastfeeding topics helpful for health professionals.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this lesson, the student will be able to:
- Describe the benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers.
- Discuss why early initiation of breastfeeding is important.
- Demonstrate four different breastfeeding positions.
- Identify common breastfeeding problems and descibe nursing management.
- List contraindications to breastfeeding.
Learning Materials and Evaluation Methods:
Read the breastfeeding material in your textbook in addition to the material listed below. You will also have the oppurtunity to observe breastfeeding in your mother/baby clinical rotation at the hospital. Review material below over the next week, then you will be given an exam over the material in class next week.
